How Do You Get a UTI

It's pretty easy to get a urinary tract infection. A UTI is caused when bacteria enter the bladder and travel up the urethra. Bacteria that live in the vagina, genital, and anal areas may enter the urethra, travel to the bladder, and cause an infection.

This can happen during sexual activity when bacteria from your partner's genitals, anus, fingers, or sex toys get pushed into your urethra. If left untreated, the bacteria from a UTI can spread through the body and cause serious health problems. Sometimes home remedies would be enough to clear the infection. In case home remedies are not enough to clear the infection, or if you have a more severe UTI, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics. The most common UTI antibiotic is amoxicillin.
